Our neighbors cat "Santa" dropped by for a visit this morning.
First time I've got to pet him since a bought him some food a few weeks ago (yes I gave him a few bites).
Yesterday I woke up thinking I'm going to get a dog ....after I took my medicine and went back to bed I changed my mind. Fluffy and Sissy never let me sleep in and they barked a lot.
So I'm back to saying no four legged pets ...... Everyone on the street is betting when I'll change my mind. But as long as my brain wins over my heart I'm going to hang tight.
We travel a lot!!!! And every time I left Fluff & Sis I felt really bad. And the kids are young adults now ....that means in a few years I can travel with Dave. For example last week he was in New York. I've never been and I'd like to go!
Can you tell this post is turning into me trying to remind myself of all the reasons why I can't get a new pet?
It boils down to I'm incredibly lonely ......but I'm going to look for ways to get over it!
For example I started a new quilt Yesterday using the spice cake fabric. But I ran out of fabric and my next shipment doesn't get here til Wednesday :(

I know it is hard but you are right about the not getting a dog. The kids will leave home soon for college and you'll have a lot of freedom to do anything you want - including traveling! We are fortunate so far to have a few relatives available to come and house sit and take care of our animals. But soon they will be getting married etc. our dogs are old and we will be faced with the same decision.
We would love to have a dog again but fight it every day. Just keep thinking of all the negatives--food bill, poop pick up, vet bills,walking in the winter, and yes, leaving them when you want to go somewhere. Maybe you can just babysit all the neighbors pets!
I think you need a cat. They will not only let you sleep in, they will sleep in, too.
I wish you well Angie...I went 2 weeks with out a pet and gave in! I adore my Mr. Darcy and can't imagine my life without the little guy. Yes, he poops in the yard, traveling is more difficult, there are vet bills and dog food to purchase but he gives us so much in return. Will be watching to see how you hold up with out a pet. :)
If you decide to get a dog only get one - they are a lot easier to train. You could discipline them to obet to not bark and wait for you to get up.
...and I can't wait to see the quilt!!!! (I'm too involved to give my 2 cents about the dog...I haven't gone more than 3 weeks without one but I hear ya sister. I do all the work - love him to death, but am in the same family situation and HATE leaving him at the kennel and LOVE to travel and hubby and I will be doing more and more of that! We'll see...
