X Factor

I like many of the singers on X Factor ...but two of them are my favorite ... Josh and Drew.
Josh is my most favorite ....his voice is amazing and because of his age ....he needs something to happen now.  Drew on the other hand ...is 14 and the sky is the limit for her.

They both have blown me away!!

Lightroom

I recently purchased the Adobe Lightroom software and I love it!!
It's a software that catalogs your photos.

I've decided to get back into scrapbooking and before I start  .... I need all my pictures in one location.

The reason I'm sharing this is I found the most darling picture of Sissy ....and I just had to share it.

My new bird/chick

Isn't she darling!!!

My friend Sandra gave her to me today and I just had to show you. She matches my house perfectly!!
Now I need to find a safe place for her in my office.

Gotta run .... need to lay down before I have to take Brooke to the orthodontist. I had blood work done earlier and met Sandra for lunch and I feel like I've run a marathon.

A, B, C, D Family

I just remembered something and thought I would share with you.....
have you ever noticed:  Angie, Brooke, Chase & David are A,B,C & D?
I swear didn't know until a few years after they were born!

I was signing cards one day (probably Christmas cards) and I usually sign them Dave, Angie, Chase & Brooke ...but I accidentally wrote my name first ....and then I thought .... lets do the girls names first ....so I added Brooke's name ....and it hit me.

As you can imagine for a few years I signed our cards like that :)  I wonder how many people thought I was a nutcase?

p.s.  Did you know that Dolly Parton has a niece and nephew named Chase & Brooke?  I read that in her book ....... I loved her book!!! When I read it ...it sounded just like she was talking!

My eyes

I went back to the eye doctor today and they told me once again that my vision would get better and that in the years to come I'll be thankful I had the surgery.  I shouldn't have  ..... but I finally told them today that I wished I'd never had the surgery.  He told me not to worry that it even took their main doctor 8 months before his eyes blended (I wanted to ask why they didn't share that with me before).  If it's really going to get better .... I can wait ... it's just after 5 months of blurry vision I'm done with waiting!!

For those of you that didn't know .... right after Chase's surgery I needed a pick me up.  At the time I didn't know I had thyroid cancer ..... I just thought I was feeling blue.  So, I convinced Dave that it would be an investment and I would be so happy ...if I could get vision correction surgery. 

So, the night after surgery I could see GREAT!   But the next day ...not so much.  Funny thing is I can see far away now ..... which is good ...I needed glasses for that five months ago.  But my problem is my computer is totally blurry and I do mean totally.  I can see my iPad .... but to read a book I have to keep moving it ...and if I look up from my iPad to look at the TV ....not good!!  Last week I got the new iPhone 4S (I called it my iPhone 4Steve) and I spent about 20 minutes fixing the settings ...and after that I couldn't read the clock on the microwave or DVR for about 40 minutes ...... truth be told ...everything was blurry.

The good news is ... I can buy really cute sunglasses for the first time of my life and I love it!! My whole family (Chase, Brooke & Dave) say I look like a bug or a Dragonfly .... my glasses are so big. I always laugh and tell them I don't care I love them!!!  Plus my sister Kim said they look cool and she's way more fashionable than any of them :)   

The not so good news ..... dry eyes are common with Thyroid cancer/issues ......so I really need to keep using those eye drops & Restasis.  I'll be happy to do so ...as long as some day in the near future it improves.

Southern Style Potatoes

The Crockpot Potato Soup calls for southern style potatoes .... Heres a picture of them (I use generic).

You can find them in the frozen potato isle ...,.right next to the hash browns.

Crockpot Potato Soup

If you're a fan of the Potato Soup at Panera Bread .....this soup is the closest I've found.

Just remember to serve it with Sour Dough bread ...it's the best!!

Here's the recipe for Crockpot Potato Soup:

1 pkg Southern Style potatoes (frozen)
1/3 cup chopped green onion
1/2 lb bacon
3 cans chicken broth
1 can cream of chicken soup
8 oz cream cheese
1/4 tsp pepper
1/2 tsp salt

Cook bacon to a crisp and let cool. Crumble once cool.
Add potatoes to crock pot and add onion and bacon.
Mix in bowl cream cheese, soup, broth, salt and pepper.  Once it's mixed add to crock pot.
Cook on low 8 hours or high for 4 or 5 hours.

Serve with Sourdough bread (or French Bread).

Serves 4 to 5 people..... I double the recipe so we can have leftover soup.

Tortilla Beef Bake

I'm always looking for a quick & easy meal.

Here's the recipe for the Tortilla Beef Bake

1-1/2 lb ground beef
1 can cream of chicken soup
2-1/2 cups tortilla chips
16 oz Salsa
2 cups Colby Jack shredded cheese
2 tsp Cumin

Brown ground beef and drain. Stir in soup and salsa.
Spray baking dish with Pam.
Crumble chips and sprinkle enough to cover bottom of baking dish.
Top with beef mixture and cheese.
Bake at 350 for 25/30 minutes.
Sprinkle chips on top before serving.

Optional: Serve with tomatoes, lettuce and sour cream

I like tweaking recipes so the next time I make it .....I'm going to experiment. I'm going to line the baking dish with flour or corn tortillas instead of chips and drop the cheese down to a cup.
And I may try 3/4 pound of ground turkey and 3/4 pound of ground beef (instead of 1-1/2 pounds of ground beef).

Exercise

I'm happy to report I survived the walk with my neighbor today. It wasn't much .... 20 minutes ....really slow.... but at least I've started.

Now the ticket is ....go every day.

I had a few ladies ask me if I would share my food/exercise journal and for now I can't. My eating habits would scare you!

For example I had popcorn for lunch and now I'm drinking a large coffee with loads of cream and sugar (only way I'll be able to cook supper before Dave gets home).

But I'm changing my ways ......

I'm working on my grocery list and it includes a bunch of fruit for my blender .... Yes along with Juice Plus+ I'm also going to start having a least one green smoothie a day (no diary ...just ice).
I've had them before and I liked them....just got lazy ..you know having to clean the blender after each use!!

Gotta run and start supper ....see ya!

Multi vitamin

I've been trying to figure out why I felt good (had energy to move) two days last week and something came to me after googling thyroid issues .... What if I forgot to take my multi vitamin those two days (it happens)?

So, for the next three days I'm not going to take my multi vitamin ... But I'll continue to take my D3 2000. I may eliminate it too ...if I don't see a difference.

And I'm also going to start using Juice Plus+

I have problems eating vegetables (many of them taste bitter to me) and I know my body needs more fruits and vegetables.

Sorry this blog has turned into health stuff .... I'm going to continue to share because I know this information is helpful to others. (just as I appreciate all the info you all have given me!)

P. S. Not enough energy to stamp today .... But I'm meeting my neighbor to go walk for 15 minutes. Hopefully she won't have to dial 911 to get me home.....I'm just kidding ....but I may pass out when I get home. I've heard that I need to add exercise to my daily routine and since I'm desperate to get better I'm going to do everything I can!!!!

My luck is changing!!

The past few months have been just one thing after another and to be honest I was getting a little scared!

But I'm here to say "my luck is changing"!

Everyone says "I never win anything" and that's what I always say (Dave is another story) .....but this week my name was drawn to win a quilt from my upline Jill (I think I'm her fifth level) .....and then today I see I won a banner from one of my other uplines.
Holy cow!!!!

I'm taking this as a sign that things are turning around (even though I'm too tired to even hang laundry).

Sad day

I'm a huge Apple fan!!!

I have an iMac, iPod, iPad and an iPhone (multiple of each in this house).

As you can imagine I'm very sad to hear the news that Steve Jobs died today!!

It breaks my heart and scares me to death ..... I should wait until October 14th, Steve Jobs day .....but it's fresh on my mind now so here it goes.

I tell everyone that the iMac or apple products saved my life. And I'm telling the truth :)

When I started My Chic n Scratch blog in 2006 .....blogging was still new and there wasn't a lot of help out there.

And .....when I started my stamping videos for You Tube .....well ....you can imagine what my pc did. Crashed!!!

My largest complaint was .... waiting FOREVER for the computer to turn on and go through all it's crazy virus protection stuff. I swear some days it took half an hour to finally get online and logged in to my blog.

And do you want to hear how many times I had spent an hour or better creating a post and then all of a sudden it was lost? Happened more times than I'd like to admit. (in case you're wondering ...the iMac saves your work).

So ....I tell my kids that apple products saved 10 years of my life and saved me from a heart attack ... that I was going to have one day waiting on a pc to reboot :) I'm joking ... Or am I?

Same with the iPhone .... The phone just works and does everything I need it to do....without having to jump through hoops.

I sure hope I never have to relive those days and have to go back to using a PC!!!!!

I'll end on lighter note ....when I love something I tell the world (and my friends and family) .... And one of my friends told me last year that they Macified their house because of me and they are just as pleased as I am.

My prayers are with his family ...may he rest in peace!

Hart of Dixie

I found my favorite new show of this season. It's the Hart of Dixie on the CW channel.

I like several of the new shows ....like the Secret Circle and The Ringer.....but I love the Hart
Of Dixie. It's cute and funny and I find it very entertaining!!!!

Santa came for a visit

Our neighbors cat "Santa" dropped by for a visit this morning.

First time I've got to pet him since a bought him some food a few weeks ago (yes I gave him a few bites).

Yesterday I woke up thinking I'm going to get a dog ....after I took my medicine and went back to bed I changed my mind. Fluffy and Sissy never let me sleep in and they barked a lot.

So I'm back to saying no four legged pets ...... Everyone on the street is betting when I'll change my mind. But as long as my brain wins over my heart I'm going to hang tight.
We travel a lot!!!! And every time I left Fluff & Sis I felt really bad. And the kids are young adults now ....that means in a few years I can travel with Dave. For example last week he was in New York. I've never been and I'd like to go!

Can you tell this post is turning into me trying to remind myself of all the reasons why I can't get a new pet?
It boils down to I'm incredibly lonely ......but I'm going to look for ways to get over it!

For example I started a new quilt Yesterday using the spice cake fabric. But I ran out of fabric and my next shipment doesn't get here til Wednesday :(
